This is part 3 of the mini basketball court project. This part will be the start of construction of the stand that will hold up the backboard.
Materials:
1 1/8 inch round dowel stick
1 1/8 inch square dowel stick
clear gel glue
silver sharpie
x-acto knife
2 toothpicks
duck tape(color of your choice)
duck tape(color of your choice)
Estimated time: 25-30 minutes
(Time above does NOT include the time needed for pieces to dry fully before adding more. It is just for the preparation and construction of pieces.)
Instructions:
1. First you will need to cut all you pieces into the sizes you need and color them with the silver sharpie. Cut the square dowel stick in half so you have two long rectangles instead of a square. Then cut the points off the ends of the toothpicks. You will need the following size pieces:
2 3/4 inch pieces of the rectangle dowel stick
2 3/8 inch pieces of the rectangle dowel stick
2 3/4 inch pieces of the round dowel stick
8 1/4 inch pieces of the round dowel stick
4 7/8 inch pieces cut from the toothpicks
Once all the pieces are cut, color all sides of them with the silver sharpie and set aside to use as needed.
2. Take the 2 3/4 inch round dowels and glue them to the 3/4 inch rectangles. Glue the round dowel about 1/8 inch from the end of the rectangle. Once glued set aside to dry until it can be handled without falling apart.
3. Then glue 2 of the 1/4 inch round dowel pieces 1/8 inch down from the top of the 3/4 inch round dowel making a shape similar to a cross. Then set aside to dry until it can be handled without falling apart.
4.Next glue two more of the 1/4 inch round dowel pieces to the ends. One on each side. It should look like the cross has arms. Again set aside to dry until it can be handled.
5. Take the 2 3/8 inch pieces of the rectangle dowel stick and the 4 7/8 inch pieces cut from the toothpicks and cut the ends at an angle so that they will lay flat against the other pieces and stay at an angel once glued.
6. Connect 2 7/8 inch pieces of the toothpicks to each stand at an angle by gluing them to the back of the arms and the 3/4 inch rectangle dowel on the bottom. Set aside to dry.
6. Connect 2 7/8 inch pieces of the toothpicks to each stand at an angle by gluing them to the back of the arms and the 3/4 inch rectangle dowel on the bottom. Set aside to dry.
7. Cut a piece of duck tape to cover half the length of the 3/4 inch rectangle dowel on the bottom. (I'm making a mini Los Angeles Lakers court so I used purple. But you can use whatever color you like.) Once tape is on, glue the 2 3/8 inch rectangle dowels to the longer end of the 7/8 inch dowels and set aside to dry. (This piece will later connect to the base of the stand.)
