Christmas gifts

Sorry for the long delay since my last post. The last 3 projects I've been working on have all been gifts for people so I didn't want to have them posted until they were received. But now they have all been given to their recipients so I'm going to give you some pictures of them.

This first project is a poster board ink drawing that I did for my sister. It has drawings of a coffee bean in a shower, a tea leaf in a bath, and then pictures of a coffee cup and tea cup with cream, sugar, honey and milk. The inspiration for this was the saying that coffee prefers a shower and tea a bath in how both are made, as well as my sisters and my predilections for the two. At the bottom is the saying so different but so much alike which also describes the two beverages as well as my sister and I.

This next gift is a painting I did for my grandma of a vase of sunflowers. Some of the pictures are with her holding the painting.

Finally the third and final gift is a painting I did for my brother. He is a science person so I wanted to tie science into it somehow. So I came up with this idea. It is a replica painting of the Words With Friends board that I painted on a 10 by 10 inch canvas. Then I carved out a tile tray and screwed it to the bottom framing of the canvas. The science portion comes in with the letter tiles. Instead of the regular letters and point values I used periodic table symbols and atomic numbers to make the letters and their point values. the words on the board say Brain power fun with nerds. Then in the tile tray I made extra tiles that spell out By Amber (which is me!) with two extra tiles. The tiles are made from a yellow plastic bowl that I cut into squares and used a transparent glass stain on top of them to give them a glassy golden yellow look.
